The Governing Body

The Governing Body

The Governing body has a general responsibility to ensure that the school promotes the highest standards of educational achievement possible with the resources at its disposal, acting as a ‘critical friend’ by monitoring and overseeing the smooth running of the school, supporting, listening to and communicating with staff, parents and other legitimate, interested parties.

Working with the head teacher the governing body sets a clear vision, ethos and strategic direction for the school. The strategic role involves setting suitable aims, agreeing policies, priorities, plans and targets and monitoring and evaluating results. The Governing Body holds the head teacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and for the performance management of staff.

Governors also oversee the financial performance of the school and the effective use of the school’s resources.

Who is in our school Governing Body?

Rita Harries

 _MG_5675.JPG - 802.09 KB

I became a foundation governor at the school, as a representative of St. Giles’ church, soon after moving to Mountnessing in 2008. I was a primary school teacher but am now retired. I enjoy keeping abreast with new educational initiatives and seeing them implemented within the school. Hopefully my years of teaching experience have equipped me well for my role as governor and latterly as chair of governors. I am very proud of the school and endeavor, with the other governors, to achieve the very best for the whole school community.

Annie I'Anson - Co-opted Governor

Annie

I have been a governor since June 2007 when my daughter, who is now in secondary education, was in Reception. As a governor, I concentrate on the Finance and Premises areas as well as Personnel. Having worked in Brentwood for just over 29 years at a retail company, where I was the PA to CEO, CFO and Senior Executive Directors, I bring various administration skills to the Governing Body which are utilised by the school. I enjoy being a governor as I feel I am helping the school to move forward.

Maren Barton - Co-opted Governor

Maron

My name is Maren Barton and I am parent to Natalie in class 4. I joined the governing body 5 years ago because I fell in love with the happy atmosphere and close relationships of this small school of ours. I wanted to get involved with making this the best school we could possibly have for our children, and I think we, the staff and the governors, are well on our way to achieving this! My current position is Chair of the Curriculum Committee, which is responsible for monitoring the achievement of the children and the delivery of the requirements of the National Curriculum. Having started off as a parent governor, I have been a co-opted governor for the last year.

Natalie Goddard - Staff Governor

Natalie

I am the staff governor for our school. I have worked at Mountnessing C of E Primary School as the Foundation Stage teacher and co-ordinator for 7 years. As well as my class responsibilities I am also the Foundation and Key Stage One Leader, Inclusion Manager, a level 3 Forest School Leader, and Literacy Co-ordinator. I have been the staff governor for two years. I enjoy working with the children throughout the school and meet with the school council every week to discuss important issues and consider new ideas.

Diane Read - Local Authority Governor

 MG 5693

I was born in USA but moved to England when I was 23 and had finished my university degree in Education. I have two grown up daughters and 5 grandchildren. I have lived in Mountnessing Village for 23 years, not far from the school. I taught for many years at Chipping Ongar, other Essex schools and at Mountnessing CE Primary for a year in the Year 3/4 class 9 years ago. Since then, I have been teaching on a part time basis in Billericay and Ingatestone. I have recently retired, but am keeping up to date with current practice by continuing to do some supply teaching at my previous schools. I am enjoying seeing the other side of school life by being on the Governing Body at Mountnessing and have learned a lot about what a happy, successful school Mountnessing has become with Mrs Obank as the Headteacher. I hope that parents and children find that all of the governors are easily accessible and willing to discuss any concerns that may arise.

Stephanie Hedley-Barnes - Chair of Governors

IMG 8495

I am a foundation governor and currently teach Design and Technology in a Local Secondary School.  I have 2 children attending Mountnessing School in key stage 1 and 2.

I have worked for 15 years in services supporting children and families.  This includes working extensively with Special Educational Needs,  Local Government and Charities across England.  I have managed Grants projects and hope that my experience of family services  can help support Mountnessing Primary School. I hope my experience and knowledge can assist the school.

Pete Papworth

Peter

My name is Pete Papworth, I am a security manager for the second largest holiday company in the UK. When I was asked to stand for Parent Governor last year, I was delighted to get involved. From the first time we walked into the school grounds to have a look round to place our Son Sidney At Mountnessing, we knew we had made the right choice, and after getting involved with classroom activities myself, being able to support the dedicated teachers and all the other staff at Mountnessing C of E is a real pleasure, as they provide such a first rate environment for all children that attend our school.

Catherine Bowlt -

Catherine

I became a governor at Mountnessing in 2005, shortly after my son joined the school. Since then, I have held several roles in the governing body, and am currently a member of the Curriculum Committee. I am also SEN governor. My current term of office is as a co-opted governor, both my children now having left the school.

I joined the governing body because I wanted to help to make Mountnessing an outstanding school for all the children who attend it. It is a privilege working with the other governors, Mrs Obank, the teachers and staff, the children and parents in pursuit of this worthwhile goal.

I also enjoy running the gardening club, and taking part in Forest Schools whenever possible.

My work as a Bikeability Instructor brings me once a year to the school to teach safe cycling, an important life skill, to the Year 5 children.
