At Mountnessing C of E Primary School we place great emphasis on reading and developing a love of books. You will see on this website that we have a list of books that every child should read by the time they are 11 and three quarters, this was compiled by the children.

In KS1 and KS2 the children are encouraged to change and choose their own books or reading material, supported by parents and teachers. This will ensure the children are choosing books that they want to read and enjoy.

Our expectation is that all children will read every night to (or with) an adult. This should be recorded in their reading diary which is regularly checked. The children will get opportunities to read with adults in school during guided reading sessions, quiet reading and paired reading time. Our chair of governors comes into school to read with the KS2 children too.

Reading takes place all the time in our classrooms. The children enjoy sharing a story as a whole class, they make story maps and love to retell stories using Talk4Writing with hand actions. We encourage everyone to be a reading role model and share good books with friends and teachers.

Have a look at this website for 250 free ebooks to share with children at home. See the letter we sent home with more information.

During our book week, we dress up as our favourite character and host a catwalk. The children also take part in wide variety of bookrelated activities.
