Year 3 and 4

 

 Hello and welcome to Willow Class!

Summer Term - Time Travelling - Stone / Iron Age

This term we are learning all about the Stone Age and Iron Age. Have a look to find out what we will be doing over the next half term.

In Literacy we will be looking at ‘The Stone Age Boy’. We will use this to help plan and write our own stories about being taken back in time to the Stone Age. We will also be writing diary entries on a day in the life of a Hunter Gatherer detailing feelings and the hardship of Stone Age life.

As historians we will be forgetting the modern world and using our imagination to fall back through time to ancient Britain. We will find out when Ancient Britons lived and plot it on a timeline. We will then spend time exploring their lives, how they lived, what jobs they did and what they believed in.

As artists we will be creating cave art just as the Stone Age people would have done.

As scientists we will be learning about rocks and soils. We will look at the appearance and physical properties of rocks and soils and learn how fossils are formed.

In computing we will become meteorologist and study and present the weather using different types of software.

 Spring Term Staying Alive

This term we will be learning all about our bodies. We will learn that humans and animals have skeletons and muscles for support, protection and movement. We will be able to describe how our digestive systems and use technical vocabulary to name all the different parts. We will learn that humans and animals need the right amount of nutrition and that they cannot make their own food. We will also learn about our teeth and what types of teeth we have and what their functions are.

Over this term will be designing a new school dinner based on a specific criteria. We will need to research what types of food children like to eat and present our data. We will understand and apply the principles of a healthy and varied diet. We will develop some taste tests, and plan our healthy meal. We will be involved in cooking our meals with Mrs Wheatley the school cook across one week.

During Literacy we will write a detailed explanation of how the digestive system works. Look at a number of different poets and performance poetry. We will also be writing our own Spooky Stories and recording them as a Podcast to share with the rest of the school.

Autumn Term Walk Like an Egyptian!

As Historians we will be finding out all about the Ancient Egyptians. We will start with a timeline and place early civilizations in the correct places. We will learn all about the pyramids, the Gods and Goddesses that they believed in, the afterlife and find out about Tutankhamun. We will find out what everyday people did and how they lived. We will visit a museum to see some real artefacts and develop our learning further. We will also be using our new sketch books to design our name in Egyptian hieroglyphics and make a Styrofoam stamp.

During science we will be investigating light and shadow. We will find out how shadows are formed. 

In our literacy lessons we will be using our research skills to write information texts on the Egyptians and newspaper reports on the building of Pyramids one the river Nile.

During maths we will be looking at the following areas: place value, addition, subtraction, comparing measurements, time and multiplication.

For PE this term we are looking forward to improving our tag rugby skills.

Finally in RE we will be learning about Judaism and the Journey to the Promised Land. 

 

 

Summer Term 2 

“Oh we’re the King of swingers yeah the Mountnessing BIG!!  We’ll reach the top and never stop and that’s what you’ll wanna see!”

This term Willow Class are very excited and proud to be part of the KS2 production of The Jungle Book we will learning lines and jiving to songs!

Using the story of mancub Mowgli as a stimuli Willow class will be looking at Rainforests around the world and how deforestation affects the whole world. We will be looking at arguments for and against from the view of the animals to those humans who live,thrive and exsist in Rainsforests around the world.

During DT and Art the children will be desgining and creating their own costumes for the big KS2 Production of the Jungle Book.

During numeracy we will continue to look at the four main rules of number, fractions, shape and position and mental strategies. 

 

Summer Term 1

This term we will be looking at different rivers around the world. We will be finding out about the importance of the water cycle and will be able to label different parts of a river. With this knowledge we will head outside to design and build our own playground rivers.

During numeracy we will be continuing to learn about the four rules of number, fractions, co-ordinates, 3d Shape and angles.

As a class we know how important it is to keep fit and healthy this is why every Thursday you will see us out on the playground enjoying P.E.

Do you know the longest river in the world?

Can you explain how the water cycle works?

Unsure of the above questions then pop on into Willow class and I am sure they will be willing to share their knowledge and thirst for learning something new! 

 

Spring Term 2

This term we will be turning into David Attenborough and looking into all things living! We will be investigating how plants grow and looking into how animals, plants and humans have adapted to their surroundings.

During this half term we will also be learning how to look after and rear our own chicks! We will look at their life cycles and what they need to survive.

During numeracy we will be continuing to learn about the four rules of number, fractions, co-ordinates, 3d Shape and angles.

As a class we know how important it is to keep fit and healthy this is why every Thursday you will see us out on the playground enjoying P.E

Willow Class are continuing to grow and strengthen their brains they love a challenge and are not afraid to ask for more work!!

Spring Term 1

This term we will be researching and finding out about the Vicious Vikings. The children will be making their own Viking Longship and using their persuasive skills to sell them to the Dragons from the famous TV programme Dragons Den. We will also be planning and sailing up the lane to invade KS1!!!!!

During numeracy we will be continuing to learn about the four rules of number, fractions, co-ordinates, 3d Shape and angles.

As a class we know how important it is to keep fit and healthy this is why every Thursday you will see us out on the playground enjoying P.E

Willow Class will be focussing on growing and strengthen their brains they love a challenge and are not afraid to ask for more work!!
